Frequently Asked Questions
What can we do if we do not have much technical expertise within the team?
IGP projects need to have a technology / data-driven / practical focus, but within that there are various options for teams that do not want to do a product development or a code-based analysis:
- An interface or service design and validation project. Here, teams can work with stakeholders to gather requirements and design and prototype a web / app interface or a service blueprint using tools such as Invision or Marvel. The project still needs to show significant design and research work, along with iteration (development, test, improve, repeat) cycles.
- A point-and-click analytics project. This might use cloud analytics or Cognitive Services or a visual application such as RapidMiner
- A quantitative analysis, data-driven narrative and / or visualisation. This can be done in Excel or SPSS, perhaps with visualisation in something like Tableau or PowerBI tableau
One of our team members is not communicating or contributing. What should we do?
Wherever possible, teams should try to resolve issues internally, referring to the team charter. In the first instance, you should document all meetings and communications so that you can evidence the problem. If members have repeatedly tried to contact or involve someone with no response, they can take the issue to their tutor. The tutor can then decide if the person should be taken out of the team.
Teams with non-participating members will need to continue the project without them and might need to reduce their project size & scope accordingly - please liaise with your tutors on this.
We are interested in a sponsored project, do we need to "reserve" it?
No - more than one team can do the same industry or research project, as they will have different approaches.
